Invasion of Privacy: Joe Morgan and finding healing in an unconventional college life
“I feel like I have to say, ‘I’m not weird, guys. I just had this thing that stopped me from doing what I wanted when I was 18.’”
Senior English major Joe Morgan has had an unconventional college journey, to say the least. At almost 40 years old, Morgan made the brave decision to pursue a college degree and explore his passion for English literature after being barred from higher education at an early age.
G-Spot: Kink 101 Part 3: Aftercare and subspace
As we dive into the world of kinky sex basics, aftercare and subspace are two very important terms to know in any partnership—but first, let’s review: kinky sex, or as it is commonly called, BDSM (bondage, discipline, sadism, masochism), is introduced into sexual relations to create a safe power imbalance between partners. This puts one partner in the position of power, or dominance, over the other, who is submissive. Due to this power imbalance, the submissive partner can exit a scene feeling exhausted, and may need to recover after a particularly intense scene: this is where aftercare comes in.
Frugal Foodie: Chia seed pudding
Breakfast: the most important meal of the day, especially in college. We need the extra energy to get through many classes, meetings, and activities. Here is a nutrient-packed recipe for chia seed pudding that will start your day off with a bang.
OGX gives unforgettable performance in 7th annual showcase
On Saturday, Apr. 8, Geneseo’s Original Xpression dance group, otherwise known as OGX, took the Wadsworth Auditorium by storm for their seventh annual showcase. In an incredible display of talent, all of the members of OGX contributed to what was a night to remember for all in attendance—dancers and audience members alike.
Invasion of Privacy: Max Worden, the founding father of bathtisms
Picture this: it’s 11:45 p.m. on a Monday; most students are studying, sleeping, or binge-watching Netflix. This is not the case in Nassau Hall, where a ‘“bathtism” is about to be performed. During this procedure, a group of oddly dressed students parade through the basement of Nassau, some of whom are about to be “enlightened” by the bath. In the front of the pack is Max Worden, first-year theater major, Nassau Hall resident, Southside boy, and “founding father” of bathtisms.
Frugal Foodie: Creamy pesto pasta with sausage
When it comes to making dinner, more often than not I reach for the box of penne pasta sitting front and center in my pantry. Though marinara is a classic, here is a recipe for creamy pesto pasta with sausage that will bring new flavor to a weekly staple.
Pride Alliance’s annual dinner and drag ball
This past Saturday, Apr. 1, was jam-packed with events presented by Geneseo’s Pride Alliance, beginning with their annual Pride Dinner and culminating in the explosive Drag Ball; this year’s headliner was former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant LaLa Ri. I was lucky enough to attend both events, which celebrated queer culture through experiences that were both informative and delightfully fun.
Kink 101 part 2: Safe words and hard limits
Though I love writing satirical articles about shrimp reproduction, it’s time to get back to our regularly scheduled program—if you are an avid reader of The Lamron, you will remember a former G-Spot article titled “An introduction into kink, part one,” where I got into the basics of exploring the wonderful world of kink. Well, I am back with part two, where I will be getting into one of the most important aspects of kink: safety.
The Lamron and WGSU: A collaboration years in the making
As many of our readers know, The Lamron was founded in 1922, but something you may not know is that radio station 89.3 WGSU was established only 40 years later and was intended to appeal to the same audience. WGSU has a signal with about a 25-mile radius and The Lamron distributes papers on the SUNY Geneseo campus and Main Street. WGSU and The Lamron have been operating parallel to each other since WGSU was first licensed in 1963, but there is no record of any sort of collaboration—until now.
Invasion of Privacy: The secrets of brotherly bonds between Dylan Dariano and Nathan Hubbard
Here at The Lamron, we were very excited to add Dariano and Hubbard to our team as co-sports editors after serving as the assistant sports editor and assistant sports copy editor, respectively, in the fall semester. Within even this rather short time at The Lamron, these two have established themselves as a dynamic duo like no other.
Frugal Foodie: French toast
In the fight of pancakes vs. waffles, the winner is French toast. It’s fluffy, it’s tasty, it’s not French, but boy is it scrumptious. This recipe, with origins in Rome, is the perfect breakfast for any day of the week.
Personal posters: A new take on connecting with people
Some new and interesting posters have popped up around the Geneseo campus and no one seems to know quite where they came from. There are two variations of the posters that appeared in early Feb., both containing the following elements: photos of a college-aged male, a short and strange bio, and a phone number and Snapchat username. One variation of the poster is dedicated to a person named “Evan O’Connor,” and the other to a “Cameron Block.”
Kink 101: An introduction to kink
The world is getting more interested in kink, and maybe you should too! Kink is something that many of us are beginning to dip our toes into as we become adults and our sexual encounters increase. Being in college, many of our sexual partners are suddenly more long-term, which can lead to experimentation in the bedroom. Introducing kink into a sexual relationship can be daunting, though, and taking the first steps to learn about kink might feel scary. This article will cover the baseline information about kink and is a great starting point for those just getting interested.
Club Spotlight: Geneseo First Response
On Sunday, Feb. 26 I was lucky enough to meet with the members of Geneseo First Response (GFR) before their weekly meeting. These meetings are where GFR creates the schedules of who is on duty for the upcoming weekend, as weekday and night shifts are scheduled at the beginning of the semester, and even hold elections like the one a few weeks ago that has resulted in many incumbent leaders.
Frugal Foodie: The best grilled cheese
If you’re anything like me, the majority of your retail dollars go toward buying the grilled cheese sandwich from Starbucks an embarrassing number of times a week. Though the Beecher’s Grilled Cheese is spectacular, here is a recipe for a grilled cheese that you can not only make at home, but that rivals the one at Starbucks, and is even customizable to your wants and needs. Your retail dollars will thank me.
Invasion of Privacy: Shakespearean superfan and avid napper Diana Morley
In Act 4 of Shakespeare’s King Lear, Lear poses a poignant question that has held the captivation of audiences for centuries: “Who is it that can tell me who I am?” For junior English and adolescent education major Diana Morley, there seems to be a clear answer—and, like Lear, only she can tell herself who she is.
Which building has the best vending machines?
People, I don’t know about you, but I am a sucker for vending machines—I need that quick snack in the evenings when I’m powering through that last assignment, and the nearest vending machine can make or break the wee hours of the morning. But not all vending machines are created equal; some have better snacks, some are better looking, and some work more often than others. So, in this article, I will be ranking my favorite vending machines across campus based on the three categories above.
Invasion of Privacy: Jessie Mazzeo
Geneseo offers a number of subcommittees within the Office of Sustainability for students to join and make a difference on campus: the Food Security Advocates (FSA), Genny Thrift, Plastic Free Zone Student Task Force, and many more. One student who has been an incredibly active member within the sustainability community is Jessie Mazzeo, a junior sustainability major with minors in biology and urban studies.
G-Spot: The key to maintaining a healthy relationship with a partner
College marks a time where many college students get into their first long-term relationships, and these new partnerships can be harder to maintain than expected. A lot of work goes into a relationship, especially ones where both partners are starting to think about their futures. This is no reason to give up, however, and there are many things we can do to make sure we keep our relationships healthy and happy.
