Frugal Foodie: French toast

In the fight of pancakes vs. waffles, the winner is French toast. It’s fluffy, it’s tasty, it’s not French, but boy is it scrumptious. This recipe, with origins in Rome, is the perfect breakfast for any day of the week.

Ingredients:

- ⅔ cup of milk

- 2 large eggs

- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

- ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon

- Salt to taste

- 6 thick slices of bread (challah is the best bread for French toast in my opinion, but use whatever you have!)

- 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter (have extra handy in case you need more)

Directions:

Step 1: Whisk together milk, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt together in a shallow bowl.

Step 2: Heat a medium griddle or pan over medium-high heat, melt better in the pan.

Step 3: Dunk bread in egg mixture making sure each side is well soaked.

Step 4: Transfer to the hot skillet, and cool till each side is golden brown (about 3-4 minutes on each side).

Step 5: Serve with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or mixed berries.

Step 6: Enjoy!
