Geneseo cruises past Brockport in doubleheader

The Geneseo softball team continued their season with an impressive doubleheader victory against Brockport on Thursday, Apr. 27. These two wins came after a four-game skid where Geneseo dropped two straight doubleheaders against Cortland and the University of Rochester. The Brockport games ended with final scores of 6-0 and 9-1 while wrapping up in the sixth inning of the second game due to the run rule.

Softball remains prominent in SUNYAC standings; sweeps Oswego over the weekend

Geneseo’s softball team swept Oswego over the weekend in a conference doubleheader. The team took both games against the Lakers on Friday, Apr. 21 with each game ending early as a result of the run rule. After the contests, Geneseo sat at 15-10-1 overall on the season and 6-4 in SUNYAC matchups with a winning streak of five straight games.

Women’s golf approaches end of season with two events

The Geneseo women’s golf team continued their season with two events this past week. The team traveled both times, once to compete at the Keuka College Invitational and then to play at the Cortland Martin/Wallace Invitational. The Knights took second place at the Keuka Invitational on Wednesday, Apr. 12, and fifth at the Cortland Martin/Wallace Invitational over the weekend of Apr. 15 and 16.

Club Softball goes 1-2 in game series against Brockport

On Sunday, Apr. 16, the club softball team at Geneseo played a three-game series against SUNY Brockport to kick off their spring season. This was the first time the two teams played each other since the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite the heat, both teams fought to showcase how their teams have developed over the past few years. While Geneseo ended the day with one win and two losses, it was an exciting matchup that left the team with a sense of promise ahead of the remainder of the semester.

Women’s lacrosse extends conference record to 6-0 after win vs. New Paltz

Geneseo’s women’s lacrosse team continued their dominant season on Saturday, Apr. 15 as they traveled to New Paltz. The Knights came into the game on a two-game winning streak after taking down Oneonta and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) at home over the past two weeks. They looked to continue their streak against a New Paltz team, who had on a four-game winning streak themselves as they sat with an 8-3 record on the season. Ultimately, the Knights defeated the Hawks 11-2 and improved their overall record to 10-3 while remaining undefeated in SUNYAC matchups; they currently sit at 6-0 against their conference rivals.

Women’s Rugby held their own this past weekend

The Geneseo Women’s Rugby Club team had a successful, busy weekend with two tournaments in two days on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 15-16. On Saturday, the Warthogs traveled to Fort Niagara State Park for the Battle for the Boarders tournament. The team held their own into Sunday as they tallied one win, one loss, and two ties.

Men’s lacrosse remains dominant, undefeated versus SUNYAC rivals

Geneseo’s men’s lacrosse team traveled to SUNY Plattsburgh and came away with a 21-11 victory on Saturday, Apr. 8 to extend their win streak to five games. The Knights came out firing and jumped to an early lead that could not be surmounted by the Cardinals. They improved their overall season record to 9-3 with the victory while remaining undefeated (3-0) against SUNYAC competition.

The craziness that is the NFL offseason

This NFL offseason has seen some wild transactions with former stars finding a new team, current stars holding out for a better deal, and a few teams making an unexpected push for greatness. The Panthers added Adam Theilen and DJ Chark, the Jets got Mecole Hardman while lacking a reliable quarterback, and the Patriots acquired Juju Smith-Schuster and Mike Gesicki, but seem to be sticking with a struggling Mac Jones. With so many notable moves taking place, it has been easy to lose track of where players are and where others are going. The free agent market has been picked through, but many good options remain.

Geneseo women’s rugby alumni named to USA national rugby team

Tahlia Brody, a Geneseo women’s rugby alum from the class of 2016, has been named to the USA Women’s Eagles squad. This Geneseo alum made her debut the weekend of Mar. 25 with the Eagles as they faced off against Spain in Madrid and took home a victory with a score of 35-7. This was their first Sevens match of the 2023 season and as they started strong, they will continue to have an amazing season. The next time the Eagles play will be on Friday, Jul. 7 against Australia and Friday, Jul. 14 against New Zealand.

In the year and a half that Riley Damerell has been here at Geneseo as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and Media Relations, the school’s varsity teams have flourished.
