Chalk Talk to premiere on WGSU

There is a new show set to air on Geneseo’s favorite radio station, 89.3 WGSU. On Fridays at 6:30 p.m., tune your radios over to the “Voice of the Valley” and listen to Chalk Talk for the scoop on everything sports, collegiate and professional. There will be civil discussions, heated debates, and even a few interviews along the way. And of course, listeners can call in at (585) 245-6893 to join the discussion or bring up points they wish to hear. On Friday, Apr. 7, we will be discussing Geneseo athletics, the NCAA Basketball Tournament, NBA, NFL, MLB news, and specifically the New York Yankees. As the world of sports changes every day, each week will include new fun topics, and we are always looking for suggestions.

Chalk Talk will have three great hosts who are more than qualified to deliver the facts (and opinions) to you, the listener. First up, we have fellow sports editor and junior communications major Dylan Dariano. Dariano has never been on the radio before but is excited to start.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build upon my sports media background and have some fun talking about Geneseo and pro sports,” Dariano said. Dariano is an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Bills.

Next on the roster, we have Lucas Coyne. Coyne is more familiar with radio but says that he is “excited to start the show because it is something [he has] always wanted to do, and being able to do it with two guys who love the Yankees as well will make it a fun experience.” Coyne is also a huge fan of the Yankees, along with the New England Patriots and the New York Islanders. Sadly for Lucas, Duke’s basketball team did not go all the way, but he holds his head high as a Blue Devils fan. Coyne also holds down a spot on the Geneseo Mudcats, the college’s club-level baseball team.

Lastly, we have myself—junior communications major Nathan Hubbard. Just like Dylan, I have never done any work with radio, but am eager to start. Writing about sports for The Lamron has been amazing—don’t worry, I’m not leaving—but having the opportunity to co-host a show on the radio is something I am looking forward to. Lucas and I are both fans of the Patriots, but we are all major supporters of the Yankees. Along with the others, I am prepared to share my knowledge and opinions with the listeners of Chalk Talk.

I speak for my co-hosts when I say that we are excited to begin this project and are extremely grateful to those who have helped us make this a reality. WGSU has been without a sports show for a few semesters, making the premiere of Chalk Talk even more anticipated. Along with us, WGSU will be adding several other shows to their line-up, including a collaboration with The Lamron which we are all looking forward to as well. Again, Fridays at 6:30 p.m., head on over to 89.3 WGSU for Chalk Talk and feel free to call in—we would love to hear from you!
