Women’s rugby takes on the weekend
Geneseo’s women’s club rugby team had a packed schedule this past weekend. On Saturday, Apr. 6, the team’s “B” side had a non-league 10s scrimmage against Buffalo State, where they put up a valiant fight against the Banshees. Although they did not come out victorious, the team enjoyed their time on the pitch; for some, it was their first time.
Swimming and diving teams win another SUNYAC title
Starting on Wednesday, Feb. 21, both SUNY Geneseo’s men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in a four-day SUNYAC tournament where the men's team brought home their 10th-straight SUNYAC title and the women’s team claimed their 16th consecutive, as well.
Ice Knights on streak ahead of postseason
On Wednesday, Feb. 14, the Geneseo men’s ice hockey team traveled to SUNY Morrisville to cap off their regular season with a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup. The Ice Knights returned to Geneseo on a six-game winning streak after defeating the Mustangs with a score of 7-2.
Weekend comeback for Geneseo women’s basketball
Geneseo’s women’s basketball team hosted two games this past weekend. On Friday, Dec. 1, the Knights welcomed New Paltz for their first State University of New York Conference (SUNYAC) matchup of the season.
Women’s basketball destroys Old Westbury for first win
This past Sunday, Nov. 12, Geneseo’s women’s basketball team pulled through with a dominant win against the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers. The Knights tallied an impressive 81 points after a tough season-opening loss against St. Joseph’s University, New York-Long Island the previous day.
Geneseo volleyball hosts weekend tournament, drops both games
Geneseo hosted a two-day tournament this weekend, playing games against Carnegie Mellon on Friday, Nov. 3, and Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, Nov. 4, unfortunately losing both games and sitting at a record of 13 losses and 12 wins following regular season play.
Women’s soccer shuts out Plattsburgh in SUNYAC playoffs
On Saturday, Oct. 28, Geneseo’s women’s soccer team took home a 4-0 victory against Plattsburgh in the first round of the 2023 SUNYAC playoffs.
Geneseo’s swimming teams secure their second wins of the 2023 season
On Saturday, Oct. 21, Geneseo’s men's and women's swim and dive teams both took home wins against Alfred State College. The men’s team left Erie Community College, where the meet took place, with a 210-90 win while the women’s team left with a 232-60 victory.
Geneseo Women’s Rugby ends their league season with a 4-1 record
On Saturday, Oct. 14, Geneseo’s women's rugby team played an exciting and rainy game against Le Moyne College. The Warthogs came out on top with a score of 34-0 and mercy ruled the Banshees within the first half of the match. The contest was their senior game which honored fly-half Hannah Reid, hooker Jillian Orr, second-row Rae Griffin, wing Nicole Petfield, and props Claire Bressette and Peyton Vanboden.
Geneseo volleyball claims two sweeps this past weekend
On Friday, Sept. 29, Geneseo’s women’s volleyball team began their successful weekend against Potsdam with a score of 3-0 in their first of many SUNYAC games this season. The first set was led by senior outside hitter Madison Popielski, who dominated with three straight aces and set the mood for the rest of the game early on. Despite some unfortunate errors, senior opposite hitter Julia Wallace was able to come in with a big kill to wrap up the first set in a 25-21 victory.
Field hockey suffers their second loss of the season against Salisbury
The Geneseo women’s field hockey team suffered their second loss of the season this past weekend on Saturday, Sept. 16, when they went up against Salisbury College. Geneseo put up a tough game when they held their own defensively as they only allowed three shots to get in the goal. Salisbury is ranked fourth nationally, so the fight the Knights put up was extremely impressive.
Women’s rugby begins season against Cortland
On Saturday, Sept. 9, Geneseo’s women’s rugby team had their first match of the fall season against the Cortland Peace Frogs. Although the team suffered a 40-17 loss, there was nothing but excitement on the pitch. With a large and supportive crowd, Geneseo was pumped up for a good game. The Warthogs were anticipating a fun game with a large class of new players as they put their skills to the test and scored three tries as a team, and one player’s first.
Men’s Lacrosse dominated the field this past Saturday with a 12-6 win over Oneonta
The men’s lacrosse team looked to continue their dominance in their final SUNYAC and regular season matchup against the Oneonta Red Dragons on Saturday, Apr. 29. The game was preceded by the team’s senior day ceremony with players William McCumiskey, Christian Marcello, Jr., Reese Gerlach, Liam Kassl, Brady Sullivan, Sean Grace, Kevin Leon, Mark Pav, Jason DeCoteau, Kevin Ehli, Spencer Frank, and Kenny Hannaford being honored with 400 spectators present to cheer them on.
Track and Field finishes strong at University of Rochester invite this past weekend
The men’s and women’s track and field teams dominated in their invite at the University of Rochester this past weekend, with the women’s team coming in first place all-around with 126 points, while the men’s team scored 59 points en route to a fifth-place finish on Saturday, Apr. 22.
Women’s Rugby held their own this past weekend
The Geneseo Women’s Rugby Club team had a successful, busy weekend with two tournaments in two days on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 15-16. On Saturday, the Warthogs traveled to Fort Niagara State Park for the Battle for the Boarders tournament. The team held their own into Sunday as they tallied one win, one loss, and two ties.
Softball goes 1-3 this past weekend in multiple close games
It was a busy weekend for Geneseo’s softball team as they played four games resulting in one win and three losses to bring their season record to 8-9-1. The Knights traveled to New Paltz on Friday, Apr. 7 for a doubleheader before making their way to Oneonta the following day to face the Red Dragons in another two-game set.
Geneseo women’s rugby alumni named to USA national rugby team
Tahlia Brody, a Geneseo women’s rugby alum from the class of 2016, has been named to the USA Women’s Eagles squad. This Geneseo alum made her debut the weekend of Mar. 25 with the Eagles as they faced off against Spain in Madrid and took home a victory with a score of 35-7. This was their first Sevens match of the 2023 season and as they started strong, they will continue to have an amazing season. The next time the Eagles play will be on Friday, Jul. 7 against Australia and Friday, Jul. 14 against New Zealand.
Women’s lacrosse Makes their way further into the SUNYAC circuit
The Knights had a successful stint this past week as they beat both Clarkson University and SUNY Plattsburgh to move through some tough SUNYAC competition and improve their season record to 5-2.
Women’s Lacrosse dominates in their first game of the season
The Geneseo women’s lacrosse team held their own this past week with a successful trip to Nazareth College on Wednesday, Mar 1. This marked their first game of the year, and there would be no better way to kick off their season—the Knights played hard the entire game and achieved an 18-10 win over the Golden Flyers.
One game, one win for Geneseo’s men’s lacrosse
The Geneseo men’s lacrosse team traveled to Nazareth College to face the Golden Flyers on Saturday, Feb. 25, and brought home a win in their season opener. Their game was a close one as the Knights fought tooth and nail to ground out the victory with a final score of 13-11.
