Top three Halloween activities you can do here at Geneseo

To Geneseo students, Halloween is one of the best holidays of all time. This is a holiday filled with traditional activities and events that will bring out your inner child this season. SUNY Geneseo brings out the spooky on campus with annual Halloween events, such as haunted houses, costume contests, and movie nights.

While there are some Halloween traditions catered more to younger audiences such as trick-or-treating or jumping in leaf piles, haunted houses are geared towards an older audience. People can bring their friends and family to get scared by what’s inside. While scary stories have existed for a long time, haunted houses bring these stories to life with flashing lights, costumed people, and eerie music to make any person shake in their boots.

Geneseo Late Knight is putting together its Annual Haunted House event on Saturday with the Black Student Union (BSU), Oct. 29, from 9 p.m.–11 p.m. It will be held in the MacVittie College Union right in the Union Ballroom. Bring your friends along to this spooky event. Trust me, you won’t want to go alone—enter at your own risk.

It has been a long-running Halloween tradition to dress up before going trick-or-treating with your friends. To some, dressing up as a favorite character for the day is seen as relaxing, and serves as an escape. Dressing up is also a fun way to meet new people and bond over shared interests at Halloween parties.

Looking for a party to go to? The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is also hosting a Halloween party Monday, Oct. 31 in South Hall room 235 at 7:30 p.m., and The English Honors Society (Sigma Delta Tau) is hosting a party on Monday, Oct. 31 Welles Hall room 216 at 7 p.m. Need a costume? Check out the Genny Thrift Sale during the Sustainability Union Takeover Friday, Oct. 25 in the union from 11 a.m.–3 p.m.

Whether it be The Addams Family or the classic Halloween series, almost every Halloween enthusiast has their favorite Halloween movie to watch during the holiday. There are many classic Halloween movies to choose from, whether it be kid’s Halloween movies such as Monster House or Hocus Pocus or horror movies like Child’s Play or IT. Hollywood loves to go all out on Halloween and horror movies in both quantity and quality.

Geneseo Late Knight is having a Movie Knight located in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom on Friday, Oct. 28, from 9 p.m.–11 p.m. Join Geneseo Late Knight for a spooky edition of movie night as they present both The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy and The Conjuring

Geneseo has lots of other Halloween events to look out for such as pumpkin decorating, scavenger hunts, and much more. For more information on any of these events, visit the SUNY Geneseo website and take a look at the Events Calendar.
