The Bills came into week nine of the National Football League (NFL) season having just taken down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an effort to right the ship and turn around their middling season. After having done that, the team set their sights on another conference contender as they took on the Cincinnati Bengals during Sunday Night Football on Nov. 5. 

The tragic passing of former National Hockey League (NHL) forward Adam Johnson on Oct. 28, 2023 has led to debate over whether or not the NHL should make the use of neck guards mandatory. Johnson passed away after what teammates and onlookers would describe as a “freak accident” during a game between the Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers from the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA). A collision between Johnson and the opposing team’s player, Matt Petgrave, occurred and video footage showed Petgrave’s skate strike Johnson in the neck, causing him to collapse on the ice. Security cleared out the arena to make room for emergency services, and Johnson would later be pronounced dead at a local hospital. 

Geneseo hosted a two-day tournament this weekend, playing games against Carnegie Mellon on Friday, Nov. 3, and Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, Nov. 4, unfortunately losing both games and sitting at a record of 13 losses and 12 wins following regular season play. 

The Geneseo Ice Knights went 2-0 over the weekend with wins over SUNY Brockport and Canton University. The game against Brockport took place on Friday, Nov. 3, with the Ice Knights winning the contest 6-2. The game against Canton took place the next night, with Geneseo winning 4-1 in another dominant outing. The team is now 4-0 on the season, having won all three games at the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena, plus one on the road.

The 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) season is officially over. On Wednesday, Nov. 1, the World Series concluded as the Texas Rangers won their first-ever championship. Despite a rather underwhelming matchup, the series itself was exciting.

After an extremely disappointing loss to their division rival New England Patriots in week seven of the National Football League (NFL) season, the Buffalo Bills desperately needed to get back in the win column. Their next test was in a matchup with the 3-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, Oct. 26, and they needed to secure a victory to remain above .500 on the year.

The Geneseo Ice Knights held their home opener at the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena against Nazareth on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Ice Knights won the game in thrilling fashion with a 3-2 win in overtime. The game was highly contested throughout, with each team losing and gaining on  the scoreboard. The overtime victory was an excellent way to kick off what should be another exciting season for the Geneseo.

The Geneseo Knights made history on Saturday, Oct. 28. The men’s cross country team won their ninth-consecutive SUNYAC title, and it wasn’t the only one claimed on Saturday, as the women’s team followed suit. The women claimed their 12th-straight SUNYAC title, with both programs having proven to be a major contribution to the success of Geneseo athletics over the last decade, and will surely continue to do so.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, Geneseo’s women’s soccer team took home a 4-0 victory against Plattsburgh in the first round of the 2023 SUNYAC playoffs.

The Boston Red Sox fired Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, after four seasons of unpredictability. The team replaced Bloom with former player and executive Craig Breslow, to run their baseball operations department, on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023.

The Buffalo Bills entered week six of the 2023 National Football League (NFL) season looking to rebound after an ugly defeat at the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday, Oct. 8. The worst loss did not come on the scoreboard, however, as multiple Bills defenders went down with injuries in the matchup.

Last season, the New York Giants shocked the National Football League (NFL) world by going 9-7 and winning their first playoff game since their Super Bowl-winning season in 2011. During the offseason, the Giants only increased their talent through the draft and free agency. This led many fans and media outlets to predict the Giants improving and making a return to the playoffs in the 2023 season. This year, however, has been a fan’s worst nightmare with “Big Blue” only recording one victory through the first six weeks.
