The Men’s Club Volleyball team held the first home tournament in the club’s history this past Sunday. The Men’s Volleyball Club, which sends their A and B teams to competitions statewide, is a Division II club team recognized by the National Club Volleyball Federation.

This year, the team has attended tournaments at the University at Buffalo, SUNY Brockport, and RIT. Competition on Sunday included attendance from the Buffalo Bulls (three teams), the Oswego Kraken (two teams), and the Binghamton Bearcats (one team).

Geneseo B won their first match of the semester against Oswego B, but fell to Buffalo Black and Buffalo Blue in pool play, achieving the No. 7 seed slot in the power rankings.

Geneseo A suffered some tough losses in pool play against Buffalo White, Binghamton, and Oswego A, achieving the No. 5 seed in the power rankings. Geneseo B fell to Buffalo Blue in their playoff match, finishing seventh overall, but Geneseo A won their tiebreaking playoff set to take the match against Oswego A, advancing them to the semifinals.

Despite their best efforts, Geneseo A then lost to Buffalo White in another intensely close game, losing their tiebreaking set 10-12 and finishing fourth overall. Buffalo Blue took down Binghamton in their semifinal match, and ultimately won the tournament after a close one-set championship match against Buffalo White.

Junior physics education major and current club president Dan Palant commented that he “...couldn’t be more proud of our teams today. We started off a bit rocky but we really dialed it in for the playoffs and followed through to the end. The chemistry we have as a club is absolutely unmatched, I can’t wait to see what this organization can achieve next year!”

The Men’s Volleyball Knights look forward to their upcoming seasons in the Fall 2022 semester and beyond.
