The return of Full Circle

Monday, Sept. 25, marked the return of The Lamron and WGSU’s media collaboration Full Circle. Full Circle is a radio show that not only highlights stories from the Geneseo newspaper The Lamron, but also includes news on a national and international level.

Currently, Full Circle is a live, segmented show that includes news from near and far: a segment called Climate Connections, an entertainment segment titled The Backlot, a brief sports segment which previews the next radio show, Chalk Talk, and concludes with an interview with a notable member of the Geneseo community.

Climate Connections is an outsourced segment of the show that comes from Yale. This 90-second segment, as described by Yale Climate Connections, is “a nonpartisan, multimedia service providing daily broadcast radio programming and original web-based reporting, commentary, and analysis on the issue of climate change, one of the greatest challenges and stories confronting modern society.”

After the conclusion of Climate Connections, the world news segment finishes with a few final stories and then hands off the broadcast to a member of The Lamron staff. The Lamron portion of the broadcast includes a recap of all news stories published in the most recent issue, along with a featured article from each of the other sections: Knight’s Life, Opinion, Arts and Entertainment, and Sports.

After the conclusion of the Lamron’s broadcast, the microphone is passed over to junior adolescent education major Alex Rodriguez, for his segment The Backlot. The Backlot is a three-minute portion of the show that covers all things entertainment. Most recently, Rodriguez covered news about the Writer’s Guild of America’s strike, Disney Plus’s crackdown on password sharing, and the most recent top-five box office films.

After The Backlot, we head into a sports segment with our very own senior communication majors Dylan Dariano and Nathan Hubbard. Dariano and Hubbard use this five-minute segment to preview their show Chalk Talk, briefly overviewing the most recent sports news in a concise manner.

In the final segment of Full Circle, we turn to Carolyn Przybycien for an interview with a notable member of the Geneseo community. Przybycien typically moderates an interview session that is broadcast for about 12 minutes at the conclusion of the broadcast.

A segment that will be joining Full Circle in the next few weeks is the DSA Debrief. This segment is about 90 seconds long and will be hosted by various Disabled Student Alliance members. This segment will cover accessibility issues and adaptive tools in order to educate the campus community.

If you are interested in joining the Full Circle team, come to a Lamron meeting, Thursdays at 5 p.m. in the office (located in the mailroom), or stop by the WGSU station in Blake B. Tune in to 89.3 WGSU, Geneseo’s voice of the valley, on Mondays at 6 p.m. to be briefed on all the important information you need to start your week off right!
