Upcoming events and dates students should know about before Thanksgiving

As we approach the break, students may find themselves overwhelmed with the impending stress that comes with traveling home, as well as finals that come after Thanksgiving. It is important to take time for yourself, and be prepared for work to pile up in the upcoming weeks. Here are some Geneseo events that will give any student a needed break, as well as important upcoming dates students should know about.

The first events students should keep an eye out for are both brought to students by the Music Department. The string band at Geneseo is hosting a Square Dance on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Union Ballroom. Everyone is welcome (not just students) to come and enjoy refreshments and basic instruction offered on Eastern style dancing. General admission is $5, while students pay $2, and anyone under the age of 12 gets free admission.

The second event sponsored by the Music Department is the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra, Geneseo Wind Ensemble and Geneseo Festival Singers. The Geneseo events website encourages all to “Join the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra and the Geneseo Wind Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Leah McGray, and the Geneseo Festival Singers, conducted by Dr. Gerard Floriano, as they present a program of works inspired by World War I in ‘Dona Nobis Pacem’ on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium: $10 general admission, $5 faculty/staff/students—cash only at the door.”

The next event, hosted by the Japanese Culture Club (JCC), is Matsuri Knight on Friday, Nov. 18, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the MacVittie College Union Lobby. Join JCC in their “annual festival event. Play some traditional festival games, eat festival food, and enter our giveaway for your chance to win snacks, plushies, and our grand prize: Nintendo Switch OLED.”

Now onto important upcoming dates for students—on Nov. 22, registration and waitlisting opens to all students at 8 a.m.; this means students can add and drop classes as well as join the waitlist for classes they might not have been able to sign up for. This is especially important for students who are missing classes they might need for their major or to graduate, or for students who missed their original registration time.

The next important date is Dec. 5—this is the last day students are allowed to withdraw from classes for the Fall semester. This only applies to courses that are full semester, or second half semester classes. The final date to know about is Dec. 12—this is the last day of classes, and also the last day to elect to pass/fail a class.

As we approach Thanksgiving break, make sure to mark your calendars with these dates, as well as check out these awesome events before final exams pile up. Finally, have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and make sure to take advantage of the days off.
