Paint and sip with GLK

After long days of classes and homework, many college students want something fun (and free) to do with their nights. Look no further than Geneseo Late Knight’s many events. GLK hosts late-night free activities on Fridays and Saturdays that are welcome to all Geneseo students. This past Friday, Sept. 29, GLK hosted an apple cider paint and sip with the Filipino Student Union. The event was held in the Macvittie Union ballroom and was welcome to all students, regardless of whether they are directly involved in FSU or GLK.

Upon entering the ballroom, students were greeted by friendly faces and a big bowl of free candy. A new concept GLK has introduced is a punch card: the punch card is free and will be available at all GLK events. For each event hosted by GLK that you attend, you will receive a punch on the card. Upon filling the card with punches, your name will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win an amazing free prize. Did I mention that this is all free?

After getting some candy and a punch card, attendees made their way over to the supplies table. The table had a variety of canvas options to choose from, and after choosing a canvas, attendees filled a paper plate with paint. Paint brushes galore and water cups were also available at the end of the table.

Tables and chairs were plentiful, but when all the chairs were full GLK workers wasted no time bringing in more for the attendees who kept filling in the ballroom. After finding a table and setting down all of the materials collected, apple cider was the next step. A cooler full of apple cider was provided and it was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere matched perfectly with the falling leaves outside and the beginning of autumn.

Casual conversations could be overheard and laughter was prominent as artists began their masterpieces. No experience was required and no skill was needed to have a great time painting with friends. While some took careful time to sketch a beautiful outline with pencil, others went full-force with brushes full of paint.

While attendees were more than welcome to keep their prized paintings, GLK appreciated any paintings donated back. These paintings donated back to GLK are to be put on display in the Union for all to see! The event ran for three hours, from 8-11 p.m., allowing time for countless students to stop by and create beautiful art in a welcoming environment.

This is far from the last event that will be hosted by GLK. In the upcoming weeks, GLK will be hosting several events alongside many of the clubs here on campus. GLK will soon host an event with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship on October 13. The event will be in the union again, but this time it is pumpkin painting—the perfect event for those looking to decorate their dorm or apartment with some spooky decorations.

For any club with ideas for events, GLK offers a grant that would allow the club to co-sponsor an event with little to no cost. GLK has its very own website, and can also be contacted via email at glk@geneseo.edu.
