Campus-wide scavenger hunt begins

While walking around campus and going to class be sure to be on the lookout for these silly little ducks.
The Student Association (SA) is teaming up with Geneseo’s favorite radio station and voice of the valley, WGSU 89.3, to hold a rubber duck scavenger hunt from January 27 until voting for Referendum begins on Mar. 3. This event seeks to raise awareness and exposure for the upcoming Referendum while engaging the campus in some light-hearted competition.
This event operates on a weekly basis up until the third. During this, a duck will be hidden somewhere on campus that is accessible to all students. Then, at Monday 6:00 pm, a clue is released on the SA and WGSU Instagram pages, where clues to the duck’s location are posted. If you are the first to find the duck, you take it to the SA Office in College Union 316 to claim your prize. Prizes are to various food places in Geneseo, as well as to some online stores. Each week, prize dollar amounts differ, with weeks two, four, and five being worth 50 dollars, weeks one and three being worth 35 dollars, and the final week of the event (week six) having a prize dollar total of 75 dollars. Each person may only find and exchange one duck.
Currently, only two weeks have elapsed, so there is still ample time for students to get involved. The first hunt took place on Jan. 27 and had the hint: “In a hall where knowledge thrives, a quiet duck patiently hides. To find its nest, here’s your clue: a locker waits in what used to be an elementary school with an even view. Locker 18 holds the key— uncover the duck, and claim victory!” The duck was located in Welles Hall and exchanged for its prize.
The second duck hunt took place on Feb. 3, and had a clue we here at The Lamron think is pretty cool: “Where news is printed, stories are told. Look for the place where headlines unfold. Outside the dining hall, it's easy to spot, a box full of stories, giving all that they’ve got.” This led those participating towards The Lamron’s distribution box outside of the Mary Jemison Dining Hall (as well as some fun encounters in The Lamron office, while a couple of hopeful scavengers came to try and figure out where this duck ultimately was— thank you for stopping by).
The duck hunt is a fun way to keep the campus engaged as we sludge through the beginning of the Spring semester and re-adjust to the rhythms of college and college in the cold in these beginning weeks. It also is a great way to continue to keep Referendum on the minds of the student body and start to spread awareness for this biannual event (if you, yourself are curious, find out more in this week’s Opinion section, or look on Geneseo website)!
To stay updated, follow SA and WGSU on Instagram and wait for the clue to drop. If you tune in to WGSU 89.3 at 6:00 pm on Mondays, they might even provide a few more clues to push you in the right direction!
