Are you looking for fun fall activities with friends?

Geneseo is known for its beautiful campus and when the fall season causes the leaves to change color this beauty is intensified.

Well then, look no further! Autumn is a fan-favorite season amongst students, leading students to search for fall activities—especially with friends. Participating in fall-themed activities is a classic way to appreciate the season, so here are some fun recommendations that you can do in the Geneseo area.

Just a quick car ride to Roanoke Apple Farm will bring you to one of the most classic fall activities of apple picking. Apple picking is one of the most popular activities amongst people of all ages and abilities because of its versatility. From picking just a few apples to picking bags full of apples, the opportunities are endless. Did you get too many apples? Make an apple pie or an apple crumble! The opportunity for fresh apple cider, or better yet, apple cider donuts, is also one too tempting to miss out on.

Another classic fall activity for all is pumpkin picking and carving, which can be done in many ways. With many pumpkin patches nearby and many grocery stores selling pumpkins, it is an easily accessible option, even for those who do not have a car on campus. The campus bus makes many trips to local grocery stores, and the schedule can be found on SUNY Geneseo’s website. Once you have your pumpkin of choice, the carving options are endless! Many creative pumpkin carving designs can be found online on places like Pinterest. For those who may struggle with drawing, printable pumpkin carving templates are also available online, so no drawing is required! If partaking in this activity, be careful with carving materials and follow relevant safety guidelines.

A more unique fall activity can be done with supplies found right outside. Leaf collages are fun art projects that require few accessible materials, such as sheets of paper, colorful fall leaves, and some sort of adhesive material, such as tape or glue. Along with the collage, collecting leaves for an art project is a great way to get out into nature and harmlessly use nature to create art and a keepsake of fall in a picturesque college town.

A visit to Letchworth State Park to see the fall foliage is a to-do that should be on everyone’s list. Many people travel to Letchworth State Park specifically for the views, and we here on campus are lucky enough to be just a short drive away. Whether it is a sunrise hike or a photo shoot with friends, any time outside is time well spent.

This next activity can be done directly on campus and requires no additional supplies. Next time you and your friends are grabbing lunch, or you need a little snack, take the party outside! Grab a blanket or a towel and have a picnic on the campus green or any other grass spot on campus while you still can. While fall is to be appreciated while it is around, noting that winter is not far away certainly has some merit as I continue to encourage you to take on some outdoor excursions. Whether taking some dining hall food to-go or making a little lunch at home, this activity can be done with friends or by yourself! Lunch is one of many inside activities that can easily transfer into outdoor activities. Reading a book, writing poetry, doing homework, drawing pictures, and even just listening to music are great activities to be done outside to soak up the final bit of sun.

These recommendations and all other fall activities are an engaging way to spend time outside and de-stress from campus-related responsibilities!
