Invasion of Privacy: Jeremy Sauer

Undeclared major sophomore Jeremy Sauer is musically talented and curious about the world. Just a sophomore in college, he devotes his career to music production, as he has done since 2017. Sauer has already published several albums that have been played on five continents and is a cellist.

He describes the start of his music career when he began making remixes of songs from his French class.

“I began making meme remixes of songs my French class was forced to sing. My first release was an album of remixes of the song ‘Aux Arbres Citoyens’ by Yannick Noah,” Sauer said via email. “[It is] an ecological anthem that supplicates for the protection of the environment from human encroachment and degradation.”

The music Sauer creates is intended to capture life’s little moments and communicate feelings and emotions that are often not expressed through spoken word.

“My music has always sought to capture moments and communicate emotions in a clarity that is so often missing in words, from the anguish of global capitalist ecocide in my first album to the agony of a high school gym class on a sweltering day on my second (Bru Brisbee),” Sauer said. “In my following albums, [I] explored more themes, more stories and more techniques of production, always aiming to capture unique feelings and unique sounds.”

Sauer has gained a name for himself since 2020, specifically around the world. He watches his fan-base continue to grow on music platforms. His most listened to album thus far is Grandmaster.

“I have been releasing albums onto major streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music, and have seen my audience grow around the world, particularly in the Sao Paulo region of Brazil, the Indian state of Kerala, the Persian Gulf and Switzerland,” Sauer said.

Sauer’s most recent EP (Extended Play) highlights some of the characteristics of Geneseo and the surrounding area.

In addition to Sauer’s musical talent, he also holds ranks internationally in the table-top game Tiddlywinks. He explains the backstory of this game.

“[This is a game from] the late 19th century [in which] players aim to get little plastic disks (winks) into a cup (the pot). In the 1950's, at elite universities in England, the game experienced a revival, with new rules and strategies being developed,” Sauer said. “Since then, the game has spread around the world, and today there is a new revival underway.”

Sauer holds the impressive 24th rank internationally, and he has earned the title Grandmaster. He hopes to start a Tiddlywinks organization on Geneseo’s campus.

A few fun facts about Sauer include that he appreciates birds and squirrels, and strongly opposes dams. Jeremy also almost slept on a bench after getting locked out of his dorm.
