2025 Spring Internship and Job Fair

Next Thursday, Mar. 27, the Career Design Center will host the Spring Internship and Job Fair —the first in-person, all-major internship and job fair since 2019— from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom. At this event, students can network with over 80 employers representing various industries and meet Geneseo alumni who are excited to share their experiences.

Attending this job fair will provide direct access to employers, allowing you to make personal connections that will help you stand out against online applicants. This is a great way to practice networking and present yourself professionally, and it can provide students with job and internship opportunities they might not have found otherwise.

Presenting oneself in front of employers can be a daunting experience, but the Career Design Center provides students with tips on how to prepare for this event. Firstly, students should be dressed in business attire to maintain professionalism. A good rule of thumb to abide by is to dress conservatively, stick to solid colors, wear simple accessories (such as a belt or watch), and make sure all clothes are wrinkle-free. Anyone needing professional clothing can check out the free clothing giveaway at the Union from Mar. 24 to Mar. 25.

Students should also review the list of attending employers on Handshake to familiarize themselves with the company and job positions. Knowing what to expect can calm nerves and help one seize an opportunity. After researching the organizations visiting the Spring Internship and Job Fair, students can review the Career Design Center’s Interview Guide to learn how to communicate their skills and prepare questions for recruiters.

Lastly, students should bring a copy of their resume to hand out to employers. Need help formatting a resume? Students can check out the Career Design Center’s website to view resume guides and templates. Students can also view resume examples specific to their major on their website and learn how to present their relevant experiences through results and accomplishments.

Attending a workshop offered by the Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development (GOLD) program to help students develop personal and professional skills for success in life and career is another way to prepare for a job fair. Workshops like “Job Fair Prep” and “Intro to Resume” can be registered through the GOLD website. Engaging in workshops year-round is valuable for developing professional knowledge and confidence.

Preparing for the job fair can be a smooth experience with the resources listed above. Do not hesitate to seek extra assistance— students can visit Erwin 116 for Career Office Quick Chats, offered on a first-come, first-served basis from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on weekdays. Can't make it during those hours? Call the Career Design Center at (585) 245-5721 or email careers@geneseo.edu  to schedule an appointment with a career coach.

This year's Spring Internship and Job Fair is one every student should attend, especially juniors and seniors. Utilizing the resources provided by the Career Design Center and allowing time to prepare can help students make a strong first impression. Even if you don’t receive a job offer on the spot, speaking with employers helps to build valuable connections and gain insight into what representatives look for in candidates within specific industries.
