Player spotlight with freshman goalie Adam Harris
With the hockey season coming up and everyone eager to go to the games and watch the gloves drop, who wouldn’t be excited. With a little preview of how this upcoming season will be, the Lamron was given the honor to interview our freshman goalie Adam Harris. He is very excited to play his first season here for the Knights.
Being from Burlington, Ontario, Harris has been surrounded by hockey his whole life. He started playing ice hockey when he was five years old. Starting off as a forward when he was young, he was “always worried about keeping the puck out of our net, so I transitioned to being a goalie,” stated Harris.
It takes a lot of strength to be a goalie and stop shots that are flying by at 85 mph. Being inspired by one of the best goaltenders in the world, and one of the greatest goaltenders in the Montreal Canadiens history, Harris looks up to his favorite hockey player, Carey Price. Harris’s father is from Montreal, so growing up he always watched the Canadians play, becoming a Montreal Canadians fan since day one.
In the interview Harris noted that his favorite hockey memory is committing to Geneseo. Being eager to play and represent the Knights is a great quality for a player on our team: “I am extremely excited and grateful to have the opportunity to play at such an awesome school,” Harris exclaims.
He also mentioned that his favorite thing about Geneseo is the tight knit community within the campus. Having an amazing work ethic, balancing studying economics and going to practices, Adam sets his priorities straight and has time for work and play, something we all try our hardest to accomplish in college.
Coming from a great experience of playing for the Oakville Blades for the past 2 years in the junior leagues, Harris spent his summer working out and skating nearly every day to ensure that he is at the top of his game come puck drop. Harris’s favorite thing about hockey is winning championships, but the bonds and relationships that he makes with his winning teams is the most important part of the game.
Given ups and downs in his career, Harris has experienced events when things went his way and, other times, he experienced a lot of adversity due to multiple factors, but at the end of the day those experiences make you stronger on and off the ice.
One of the best pieces of advice a coach has given him was to just enjoy hockey. “As you get higher up in hockey it’s easy to get overly concerned with your performance and put a lot of pressure on yourself, but I found that learning to simply just go out there and have fun has lifted some of this pressure and ultimately led me to play better,” Harris mentioned.
This is very inspirational to not only athletes but to everyone. If you have fun and enjoy what you are doing, no one can tell you that you are not successful, or doing something wrong.
We look forward to seeing Adam Harris and our boys playing this season and can’t wait to see all the fans in the stands cheering them on!
