Key fashion staples that should be in your closet: Summer 2024
Shopping for summer? Not sure what to wear? Well, look no further as I am going to be sharing my top summer fashion choices for everyone—you don’t want to miss this.
Fashion is not all about what is trending or how expensive the products are; fashion is about what makes you feel the best and most confident that day. It can be exciting to feel like you are on trend, though it is more exciting if you feel like your best self. When picking out my clothing for the day, week, or month, I always make sure that it feels like me and that I will be most comfortable. Do not mistake the relation between comfort within yourself and fashion choices, however, as sometimes it is worth it to be stylish rather than feel physically comfortable.
A key piece of clothing to have in your closet for summer is shorts and it is important to know the types of shorts that are trending this year. As usual, jean shorts are the trend with many diverse types of rise, colors, lengths, and patterns. I have been, and always will be, an enthusiast of jean shorts; They can be dressed up or dressed down with a good amount of physical comfort in both manners.
If you are not into shorts, or it’s a pants-kind-of-day, there is also a good option. One option is lightweight linen pants that would be perfect for a beach or pool day since it doubles as a swimsuit cover-up. Similar to the shorts, linen pants come in numerous patterns that allow you to dress them up or down depending on the bag, jewelry, or shoes you pair them with. Linen pants are great as well because they are lighter and stretchier than jean shorts, skirts, or cargos, yet are more chic than sweatpants.
Now, you can’t have an undeniably fashionable bottom half with a boring top half. The go-to’s for summer tops are the usual tank top and t-shirt, yet it depends once again on how you style it. If you are wearing a cool pattern on the bottom half, as in striped linen pants or patterned shorts, you will want to wear a basic top. Choosing a solid color that matches either the shorts, shoes, or handbag makes for a simple, yet cohesive, outfit. This way, you will give the impression that you know how to dress simply by not wearing polka-dot pants with a striped shirt.
This concept I just explained is called the sandwich method, which I live by. This method explains the idea of matching while also having a contrasting concept in the outfit that makes it interesting (the buns of the sandwich match on the top and bottom). For instance, if I am wearing a pair of red and white checkered shorts, I would likely pair them with a white tank top or t-shirt and white shoes. This way, I have an unusual or unique element to my outfit while also keeping it casual and simple.
These concepts, including the sandwich method, can be used all year round! Experimenting with clothes that make you feel good is the essence of fashion, and the summer is the perfect season to try out new things.
