Top 5 Halloween Movies

With the return of “Spooky Season” comes the debate as to which Halloween movie is the best. There are so many options to choose from, so The Lamron has decided to release its top five picks for the season!

1) Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Coming in at number one we have Nightmare Before Christmas. This movie strikes up a controversy as to whether it is a Halloween movie or one oddly twisted Christmas movie. Main characters of this film include Jack Skellington, Sally, and Oogie Boogie. Jack is a, you guessed it, skeleton who is tired of celebrating the boring holiday of Halloween. Instead, he decides to give Christmas a try. In this twisted Tim Burton film, you can look forward to musical numbers and an overall spook-tacular time.

2) Hocus Pocus (1993)

Our choice for number two is an absolute Halloween classic. Hocus Pocus is set in the infamous Salem, Massachusetts, following along with its famous witch history. During the film an evil coven of witches is freed by some kids causing chaos in the town. It is up to the kids, with the help of a magical cat, to steal the witches’ spell book to stop them from becoming immortal. This film is exciting from beginning to end and is worth watching this season.

Before we continue, it seems that we have come across a tie! Tying for third place we have Scream and Halloweentown.

3) Scream (1996)

Scream is a comedic murder mystery directed by Wes Craven. Set in a small town, where a knife wielding man in a mask stalks a group of high school students, this movie is the perfect balance of horror and comedy. For those just getting into scary movies, Scream is a great start. Be prepared for twists and turns throughout the movie that will have you at the edge of your seat.

3) Halloweentown (1998)

Also at number three, we have the Disney Channel Original movie Halloweentown. In this movie three kids find out that they come from a family of witches and that their grandmother lives in Halloweentown. The children soon find out that Halloweentown is under attack from evil forces, and they are the only ones that can stop it. With a campy Disney Channel charm, this Halloween movie will leave you feeling festive for days to come.

4) It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)

At number five we have a Peanuts classic! Join Charlie Brown and the gang in their wait for the Great Pumpkin.

5) Ghostbusters (1984)

Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS! No Halloween movie list would be complete with this iconic film. When four scientists lose their jobs at a New York University they decide to become ghost hunters. The group stumbles upon a doorway that will release all evil into New York City and they must find a way to save the city. Although Ghostbusters is coming in last, it still is one of the best.

All movies were voted on by The Lamron staff and the results are subject to opinion.
