With there only being 4 seasons over the course of a year; it is critical to appreciate them all. One however, stands above all as the best, fall

While spring may be the return of life from the harsh winter, during its 2-month span, it is not uncommon for the weather to hardly pass as decent. Summer may be a break from school, but the brutal heat is enough to make a person fantasize of moving to the Arctic. It can be assumed that winter does not need to be addressed, as its bitter cold speaks for itself. Winter also comes with its treacherous counterpart, snow.

Fall may lead directly to winter, though its peak is what is worth mentioning. At its beginning, fall weather is warm, but gradually drops to comfortable cool temperatures, requiring nothing more than a sweatshirt. It is the kind of weather that allows a person to sit in a chair without the desire of needing an air conditioner or space heater.

It is common for a calm breeze to blow, allowing the air to feel clean and crisp. The otherwise relentless summer sun is relaxed and instead comes off as warm instead of hot.

Coming simultaneously with the flawless weather is the drastic and amazing leaf color change. New York State is ranked as one of the best locations to view fall foliage across its borders. Across the state, the leaves change from their common green to a variety of reds, yellows, and oranges. The drastic change is a real spectacle and transforms entire landscapes into a photographer’s paradise. With SUNY Geneseo being near some of the best state parks in Letchworth State Park and Stony Brook, there are a number of ways to appreciate this amazing scenery.

While the natural elements of fall are great, there are also the many amazing man-made traditions. With fall, there is the return of football, a great thrill for many. It allows people to enjoy their Saturdays with college games and Sunday with the NFL. The movies played on TV during the fall also provide an atmosphere that allows people to grow more in the spirit of the time.

In fall there is the eventual arrival of Halloween, which gives many the excuse to consume more candy than they’re proud to admit. Coming less than a month later, there is always Thanksgiving, the holiday where people can appreciate their lives while feasting on many great foods. Thanksgiving is the holiday responsible for bringing in the Christmas season, which stretches out to just four days before the start of winter.

The last days of fall may drop into the lower digits, though most associate the season for its early, better qualities. Fall as a season is one of many changes, through many of which bring great excitement and joy. With less than a month till its arrival, fall’s arrival is almost here!
