Seven things to do with your friends before fall ends!

With limited time left in the 2023 autumn season, I figured it was only right to give you a list of some activities you may want to participate in before you lose the chance! Of course, we all had fun for Halloween, but the season doesn’t end with October. Without further ado, here  are seven things to do with your friends before fall ends:

  1. Go apple picking! Although the pumpkin carving season has ended, there are still some fun activities to do at your local farms. Wickham Farms is located in Penfield, NY, about 45 minutes from Geneseo. Although it’s a bit of a trek, you can spend a few hours there picking fresh apples and taking fall-themed photos with friends. I think it’s important to mention the fact that you can make some delicious homemade apple pie with your sweet hand-picked apples. Don’t miss out on this opportunity, as it only comes once a year.

  2. Grab your favorite Starbucks drink and study with friends! Here at Geneseo, we really love the convenient location of this popular coffee shop. I, like many of you, love a good seasonal hot or iced beverage. Make sure to grab your fave drink while it’s still here… and you may as well get some work done in Union as well.

  3. Visit the Arboretum! This is one of my personal favorite locations in the whole town of Geneseo. The arboretum is located on South Side near the volleyball court and Onondaga Hall. Head there with some friends to be fully immersed in nature and enjoy the color-changing trees. The gazebo, furnished with a picnic table that is etched with many memories, is the perfect place to hangout. Bring a card game, some snacks, and a speaker to enjoy the weather at this staple Geneseo location.

  4. Drive or hike around Letchworth State Park! Located only a 20-30 minute drive from campus, this park is a great place to go for some stunning fall vibes. Similarly to visiting the Arboretum, you could bring a picnic or your hiking boots to immerse yourself in the sites, sounds, and smells of autumn before it becomes unfavorable cold.

  5. Host a Friendsgiving! This staple event of young adulthood is quintessential to the Thanksgiving experience. Yes, we often spend the holiday with our families, but you can host a gathering for friends prior to or post Thanksgiving weekend. Bring some of your favorite holiday dishes and desserts to share, and spend time with the friends you are most thankful for.

  6. Hit up some thrift shops for fall and winter clothing! Not only is this a cost-effective and resourceful way to get new clothes, but thrift stores definitely have some of the best sweaters, sweatshirts, and jackets for cold weather. Stop by the Geneseo Goodwill to search for a new fall wardrobe.

  7. Watch fall sports like football and hockey! Football season is one of the things I look forward to most about this time of the year. No matter what team you root for (go Bills), watching sports with friends can be a lot of fun. Not only can we watch football from the comfort of our own homes, but we also have the special opportunity to cheer on the Ice Knights in person at their home games.

No matter what you ultimately decide to do during the rest of the autumn season, I hope you try to make the most of it! Oftentimes, our mindset shifts to Christmas right after October ends, but November deserves its own time to spend in the spotlight before good ol’ Saint Nick starts coming to town.
