School of Business to offer two new undergraduate majors next semester
SUNY Geneseo has been approved to offer two new majors in the Fall 2022 semester: finance and data analytics. Both majors have previously been offered by the School of Business as minors but will be available to take as majors beginning next semester.
Changes made to general education requirements
SUNY Geneseo has been in the process of changing the general education curriculum to include less credits and classes that fit into broader skill areas. Students will be allowed to pick between the old and new curricula starting in the Fall 2022 semester.

SUNY Geneseo mask mandate lifted, masks optional for fully vaccinated students
In a campus-wide email, SUNY Geneseo announced that wearing masks on campus will be made optional beginning Monday, Mar. 7. Students that are not fully vaccinated will still be required to wear masks in public places such as classrooms and common areas.
Scholastic book fair held at Geneseo, brings nostalgia to students
The SUNY Geneseo Student Council for Exceptional Children will host a Scholastic Book Fair with the School of Education beginning Feb. 23 at Geneseo. The event will take place within the Kinetic Gallery of the MacVittie Union and will run through Mar. 4. Daily hours can be found on the Geneseo events calendar.
Geneseo TEDx hosts this semester’s event
SUNY Geneseo’s TEDx organization will be hosting this semester’s TEDx event on Sunday, Mar. 6. Tickets are ten dollars and can be purchased at universe.com. This semester’s theme is “Standing at a Crossroads,” focusing on cultural resets that we are seeing globally.
Geneseo mayoral election to be held Mar. 15, students encouraged to vote
The Village of Geneseo mayoral election will be held on Mar. 15. Both candidates, as well as the members of the Geneseo Votes Coalition (GVC), are encouraging Geneseo students to participate in the election and make their voices heard in the village.
Symphony orchestra to perform “Squid Game”-inspired concert Feb. 27
The SUNY Geneseo symphony orchestra will perform a concert inspired by the music and themes of the hit Netflix K-drama “Squid Game.” The performance will take place on Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. in the Wadsworth Auditorium.
SUNY Geneseo scholarship application deadline on Mar. 1
The deadline to submit a general application for scholarships offered by SUNY Geneseo is Mar. 1. These scholarships are offered to Geneseo students only, and one general application can make students eligible for hundreds of scholarships.
Red Cross in critical need of blood donations, blood drives to be held on campus
The Red Cross is an emergency and disaster prevention and aid organization, fully functioning on the participation of volunteers and donors. The Red Cross coordinates the collection of lifesaving blood products to be distributed to hospitals and patients in need.
Student Complaints Leveled at Counseling Services
Students have recently been disappointed with the level of mental health care provided by SUNY Geneseo. The disappointment shows a disconnect between students’ expectations and the reality of the counseling services on campus, and students are feeling unheard and misunderstood as a result.
Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to hold Diversity Summit Feb 16
The SUNY Geneseo office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will be hosting the Diversity Summit on Feb. 16. According to the DEI website, the summit will be held in several sessions that students may register to attend.
Geneseo Thrift Seeks to Expand with Petition for Permanent Space on Campus
A Geneseo Speaks petition to establish a permanent space on campus for Geneseo Thrift has garnered over two hundred signatures. Organizers hope that the popularity of the petition can lead to the creation of a space on campus for sustainable clothing practices as well as student life.
Cyberstalking case involving SUNY Geneseo student closed, man sentenced
A New York City man who admitted to illegally accessing the Snapchat account of a SUNY Geneseo student, as well as hundreds of others, was sentenced to six months in prison on Dec. 1 2021.
Christie Smith of the Admissions office inducted into the Hispanic Leadership Institute as a fellow
Recently, Christie Smith, director of admissions at SUNY Geneseo, has been inducted into the Hispanic Leadership Institute (HLI) as a fellow. The HLI is a SUNY initiative that is focused on providing SUNY faculty and staff who identify as Latinx or Hispanic the opportunity to engage in dialogue together about the state higher education and building leadership skills.
