WGSU looking to partner with Geneseo Jam Kitchen
The student-run Geneseo local radio station 89.3 WGSU is looking to partner with the Geneseo Jam Kitchen, a local music organization that hosts live music shows at the Riviera Theater and the Wadsworth Homestead. The collaboration would let WGSU to broadcast live shows, as well as more music from the artists that perform at the Geneseo Jam Kitchen.
According to WGSU Operations Manager and senior communications major Sarah DeVito, the collaboration would let WGSU publicize and promote the local artists that play at the Riviera and the Wadsworth Homestead, as well as bring a new segment to WGSU.
The Geneseo Jam Kitchen is looking to enrich the arts community and publicize local, up and coming bands and artists. According to the organization’s website, the organization hosts a wide variety of local musical acts, including “local cover bands, to up-and-coming groups, to regional stars.”
In an email statement to The Lamron, DeVito said “[WGSU is] looking to do live broadcasts of the concerts and possibly have pre-recorded interviews with the artists to air before the show or between the sets.”
The Jam Kitchen segments would be in addition to the lineup of radio segments already being aired, including Dead in the Valley, a Grateful Dead segment every Thursday from 10 p.m. – 11 p.m., and Geneseo Today, a half hour long public affairs section every Saturday morning and Sunday night at 10:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. respectively.
According to the WGSU website, “WGSU also airs a variety of non-music programming, including news, public-affairs and sports shows, and is home to Geneseo Ice Knights hockey.”
DeVito said that the collaboration with Geneseo Jam Kitchen would not be the end of WGSU’s collaborations with the greater Geneseo community.
“We have some collaborations with other local organizations in the works, and we are certainly open to exploring opportunities with others,” she said.
With an increase in special programming and a wider variety of content, WGSU is looking for new students to join the WGSU team. The radio station is entirely student-run and is always looking for new members who are excited about radio broadcast and local media, according to DeVito.
“We are definitely looking for new students to join! We are looking for people in all areas of our organization, including folks interested in journalism, news broadcasts, live sports broadcast/play-by-play commentary, operating the sound board, marketing, social media, music, and folks interested in helping to plan a music festival,” said DeVito.
