A ceasefire was seemingly achieved between Israel and the group Hezbollah, authenticated as of 4:00 am on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024. This new brokerage shows possible further tranquility in the confines of the larger-scale war between Israel and Hamas.

The deal, which the US and France brokered and later announced by President Joe Biden on Tuesday, Nov. 26, remarked that the peace was achieved mainly to stop hostilities between the two groups.

Conflicts between the two groups have created global headlines over the past year, starting only a day after the organization known as Hamas declared war on Israel, on Oct. 8 and Oct. 7 of 2023, respectively. The Israeli-Hezbollah conflict has claimed over 3,700 lives, many of them being that of civilians.

The US continues to be a major ally to Israel, as Biden reaffirms his actions defending the country during the same announcement of the peace deal. “What is left of Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations will not be allowed, I emphasize, will not be allowed, to threaten the country of Israel again.”

The militaries of Lebanon and Israel have already been underway in maintaining the ceasefire, with both deploying soldiers to maintain peace and Israeli soldiers making sure their operatives still in Lebanon were back home before residents in occupied Southern Lebanon could return to their homes. For two months, Israeli soldiers will be leaving Lebanon. At that point, it is hopeful that the villages of the Lebanon-Israel border can be occupied again by original homeowners.

Peace talks between Israel and Hamas have also been suggested on a larger scale. Senior officials within the group, such as Sami Abu Zuhri, reported that the group is happy to find a resolution affecting the two groups.

Talking to Reuters, Zuhri remarks how “Hamas appreciates the right of Lebanon and Hezbollah to reach an agreement that protects the people of Lebanon, and we hope that this agreement will pave the way to reaching an agreement that ends the war of genocide against our people in Gaza.” Israel and the US have agreed to also try for another ceasefire within Gaza. Hamas’s conditions of a permanent ceasefire, reconstruction of Gaza, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces could be shifted for peace to be obtained.

Aid efforts, including financial and military resources, will be underway from the US and France. The US will chair and lead the Tripartite Mechanism, an overview committee investigating potential violations during the ceasefire.

The deal between the two groups is not entirely well welcomed. The deputy chair of the political council within Hezbollah, Mahmoud Qamati, is determined that the deal will still take place so long as Israel does not attack any further. According to AP News, he questions if “... we will see if there is a match between what we stated and what was agreed upon by the Lebanese officials. "

While peace is still fresh, tensions will remain until more decisive action is determined. Until that happens, the world can only examine the situation within the Middle East, hoping that bloodshed soon ends even as Israel threatens more violence and continues to bomb areas deemed Hezbollah-controlled within the borders of Lebanon.
