Student bands on campus set to perform at Springfest
Though many people often complain about the small Geneseo campus, some unexpected perks come with such a tight-knit campus. One of these is the creation and support of Geneseo students forming bands and performing both on and off campus. A few of these student bands will be performing at the upcoming Springfest, making this the perfect time to learn about them.
The first of these bands is The Vivid Scene, with members Trevor Donlin, Justin Maxwell, Kevin Shea, and Jack Mulford. They will be performing at Springfest this year, and they have also performed at multiple locations throughout Geneseo, including the Drum Roll stage and Sushi Pub, Battle of the Bands, the Geneseo Eclipse Jam, and Abilene Bar and Lounge. They have also collaborated with student organizations such as Men of Action and Change (MAC) and Omega Beta Psi. You can follow them on Instagram @thevividsceneofficial to keep up with their performances.
Garden Club Funk is another band on campus that has made multiple appearances and will be at Springfest. Easily found on Instagram under the name @gardenclubfunk, this band recently released an album on Spotify titled Euphrasia: Live at the Gallery in the Valley (2025), which is full of live-recorded songs performed by them in March of this year. Their Spotify name is Garden Club, and they are “In the clurb, straight up funkin’ it.”
Another student band that will be performing at Springfest is Emergency Fifty Four. This recently formed band debuted in March of this year in collaboration with MAC and Garden Club Funk. This is a prime example of the community these bands have created within the arts community and spread to all Geneseo students. They recently performed at an event hosted by the Music Society of Geneseo on Friday Apr. 18, free to all Geneseo students. Listen to a few songs they performed at this event on their Instagram @emergenyfiftyfour.
The last student band performing at Springfest is Junk Deck Band, which is the self-proclaimed “Charmingest Band in America” on its Instagram account, @junkdeckband. They have collaborated with Drum Roll Stage and Sushi Pub and performed at the recent Music Society of Geneseo event. This immaculate student band lineup is something that you do not want to miss out on this year.
As a Geneseo student, supporting these bands is one of the most unique things you can do on and off campus. With a wide variety of members, you may know or have even had classes with some of the band members! This is unique to the so-called college experience and may create some of your best memories during your four years at Geneseo.
Supporting these bands also reflects the strong community that Geneseo works hard to provide for students. In many cases, these bands receive no compensation for their performances and do it because they want to share their music and talent with the campus. There may be a small cover charge at times, but it's often less than the cost of a movie ticket from the local theatres.
I highly recommend attending Springfest this year to see these wonderful bands and to see the headliners that the Geneseo Campus Activity Board (GCAB) worked so hard to provide to Geneseo students and community members.
