Fall brings cold weather, creating a perfect opportunity for layering unique pieces of clothing to create fun outfits.

As fall rapidly approaches and the air is getting crisp, it is time to begin thinking about what to wear this fall to look and feel your best. There are numerous trends and shopping guides, yet they do not always correlate with comfort—especially for college students. The perfect fall outfit guide offers comfort, warmth, and, most importantly, a confident aura.

When starting with comfortability, especially when walking around campus, shoes are the best place to begin—various shoe options are available. Boots can be dressed up or down, depending on what you style with them. If going for a more leisurely look, boots, such as Uggs or similar, cheaper dupe brands found online, can be a closet staple, hitting both the comfortability quota of your outfit and the essence of a timeless fall staple piece.

If the cozy, furred boots are not to your personal taste, many other boots sold can dress up an outfit and still be comfortable. Leather boots are coming back, and people continue to style these pieces with shorts, skirts, jeans, and dresses. Glamor.com states, “The knee-high shoes lend an equestrian grace and help anchor flowy fall dresses, newly trendy skinny jeans, and just about anything else in your autumn capsule.” Comfortable and chic, these boots are essential for transitioning from summer to fall.

Jeans are essential in any wardrobe but truly make their comeback in the item rotation for fall. If you are looking for a more casual fit, jeans can be worn with a simple, cute sweatshirt and your aforementioned boot of choice. This gives the wearer a classic outfit that truly makes them feel like fall is coming back around. A more put-together look, though, could consist of jeans, sneakers, and a chunky knit sweater. Furthermore, jeans can always be reworked, re-worn, and restyled, making them a more sustainable choice in your closet!

Denim, leather, corduroy, or cardigan jackets are always a convenient staple. Whether it's a warm or cooler fall day, these jackets can be worn anytime with other clothing items for anyone. These statement jackets can be worn over t-shirts, tank tops, long sleeves, or even sweaters. Having these pieces in your closet can help to shake up an outfit you feel might be otherwise boring or help you transition more easily to the drastic temperature differences the fall can bring from day to day or even hour to hour.

Choosing the right color for your clothing is equally important as getting the basics right. Glamor.com states, “Bags, shoes, and pretty much everything else popped up in dark cherry, oxblood, and claret, meaning anything in the [color] family is a sound investment right now.” Besides these, burgundy, brown, black, gray, orange, tan, and green are essential colors for the fall season.

Viewing all the fall fashion trends and wanting to purchase everything can sometimes be compelling. Yet, it's important to recognize that personal style is more crucial than following trends. Wearing trendy items can be fun, but expressing personal style can be even more satisfying and give the clothes you buy greater longevity in your closet. This simultaneously allows for outfit comfortability and comfortability with the self while encouraging a more sustainable and timeless wardrobe. Trending styles can guide fashion, but feeling like oneself in outfits is more important than following any trend!
