G-Spot: VOX and GLK sexy egg hunt event

This past Friday, Apr. 8, GLK (Geneseo Late Knight) hosted a sexy egg hunt sponsored by VOX (Voices for Planned Parenthood). The event started around 9 p.m. and was hosted in the MacVittie College Union.

The sexy egg hunt started with the GLK leading a Kahoot on questions about proper vibrator care, what kind of lubricant should be used during sex, and other quiz questions relating to sexual health. The top three winners won prizes including Planned Parenthood t-shirts and pins. When asked about the event, sophomore history major Sam Ashton said that he “had a ton of fun with my friends, and generally everyone seemed so happy and engaged.” Students from queer organizations on campus like Iris Magazine and Pride Alliance could be seen at the event, and students from all walks of life came to participate.

While students competed in the Kahoot, GLK members worked to hide Easter eggs around the union, each egg containing a number that correlated with a prize. Prizes included vibrators, tote bags, vagina candles, and much more. Sophomore psychology major Riley Weaver noted that the event was “super fun. The prize to participant ratio was a little off, but it was a super awesome experience.” VOX also provided condoms, lubricant, and dental dams for students to take for free for their own use.

After the eggs were hidden, students were instructed to find one egg per person. Those who found eggs got to exchange the egg for a prize. Though not everyone was able to find a prize, all students were allowed to take from the goodies that Vox brought for everyone. “The scale of the event was something I really enjoyed,” said sophomore business major Noel Guidry. “I like[d] how I could search the entire union.” When students were finally allowed to look for the hidden eggs, there was a slight rush to be able to find a prize, but overall, everyone was polite and kind to each other as they searched.

I was pleasantly surprised by this event. It is not often that students are given an opportunity to talk about sexual wellness and health in an environment that is fun and exciting. Students seemed to love the event, enjoying the game of having to find an egg and win a prize, but also to be in a space that welcomes discussion about sex. I hope that SUNY Geneseo will continue to host events that allow students to learn and speak on sexual health and reproductive issues in the future.

GLK did an amazing job setting up this event that felt welcoming and inclusive to participate in as well as educational. Keep an eye out for other events hosted by Geneseo Late Knight—they are always a blast to go to!
