Latino Student Association's Annual Cultural Dinner coming soon

The Latino Student Association (LSA) is hosting their annual cultural dinner, Sabor Latino on Saturday, Apr. 29th at 5:30 p.m. The cultural dinner will take place in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom with a formal dress code. Tickets will be on sale all of next week with prices at $6 for students, $7 for staff/faculty and $8 for anyone else. The theme of the dinner will be 1920s speakeasy, with a murder mystery play that will be performed by the LSA e-board and written by LSA’s choreographer, Jonell Maldonado. If you are a fan of murder mysteries and everything 1920s, then this cultural dinner is for you.

The LSA murder mystery play is about two detectives who see themselves in the middle of a murder in their favorite underground bar, Betty’s. Within the bar, many of the cast have to find out who the murderer is along with the detectives. The story is a tale about trust, betrayal, jealousy, and mystery related to the bar’s history and the many quarrels within the cast of characters. It will be a show that you do not want to miss out on.

Many of the cultural dinners that have been put together over the semester have made some amazing food: Shakti with their samosas, the Black Student Union with their fried chicken and mac and cheese, and who could forget the Caribbean Student Association with their tres leches and rasta pasta? The Latino Student Association is no different and will have a huge lineup of dinner choices, such as Peruvian chicken, tostones (fried plantains), arroz con habichuelas (rice and beans), and Spanish sugar cookies and ice cream for dessert. Now, there is much more to be confirmed about the dinner options, but that is just a sneak peek as to what will be available for the Sabor Latino dinner.

As this article is published, LSA is hard at work at making this immersive dinner experience a reality, with a large number of people involved in the play staging, choreographing and playing off each other helping to give the student body an unforgettable night. Student Association tech services will also be helping out during the night, giving us stunning visual effects and lighting.

We like to thank senior e-board members Michelly Meza-Benitez, Joelmy Acevedo, Jonell Maldonado, and Emily Lupercio for all that they have done for LSA this year and with this play, as they will be graduating in the next month. We wish you all an amazing future and the best of luck.

Last but not least, LSA is looking for new e-board members for the 2023-2024 academic year. If you are interested in joining for any roles or just want to ask any questions, feel free to contact LSA via email or Instagram, @lsa_geneseo. LSA also has their general meetings on Thursdays at 6 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge.
