ACE movie night
On Thursday, Nov. 9, the Alliance for Community Enrichment (ACE) hosted a free movie night on campus. The event was hosted in Wadsworth Auditorium and started at 9 p.m.
ACE describes its goal on campus as “to promote and encourage the growth of a diverse environment for all students in the Geneseo community. ACE will be a committee, which shall increase the presence of cultural and historically underrepresented communities (including, but not limited to racial, ethnic, gender, sexuality, and ability) on the Geneseo campus by advocating and through the use of collaboration and programming.” Events like this movie comprise efforts to foster this goal.
This was ACE’s first movie night of the semester and members worked tirelessly before the event to ensure a smooth night. Emails were sent out in advance to students advertising the movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well as snacks and sweatshirts.
Upon entering the auditorium, students formed a line to receive free sweatshirts and free mugs. Countless students received adorable black sweatshirts, just in time for winter, along with mugs—perfect for hot chocolate. Their merch featured the saying “ACE is your space” on them, reminding everyone of their accepting nature. ACE is funded by mandatory student activity fees which makes events like these possible.
Students were encouraged to wear their most festive pajamas, and they did not disappoint. Themed pajamas, slippers, holiday pajamas, Christmas pajamas, and all-around comfy clothes were spotted around every corner. It is hard to pass up on an opportunity where it is acceptable to wear pajamas out of the house.
After students gathered their free merch, it was time to pick their seats for the movie. Since the movie was held in the auditorium, there was more than enough seating for all of the students—allowing students to sit as close to the screen as they wanted, or as far away from everyone else if they wanted some privacy.
A variety of free snacks and food were offered to everyone before the movie began, and many took advantage of this great opportunity. It was just like going to see a movie in the real theaters, except everything was free and was created by a group of extremely hard-working students!
The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of the most popular animated films, some would even go as far as saying it is one of the best. Regardless of that, the movie is overall a great watch. This movie night was timed perfectly for this film, a few short weeks after Halloween—making it acceptable to begin watching Christmas movies, but still acceptable to be watching creepy Halloween-like movies.

ACE deserves a huge shout-out for putting on this event for students, allowing them to de-stress while struggling to get work done before Thanksgiving break. Be sure to keep an eye out for future events held by ACE and all of the clubs funded by ACE.
