Virgo season: Strolling into a sound semester

Welcome to another year of zodiac season updates, tips, and tricks! And let me tell you, there is no season better for us to jump back into the academic swing of things than Virgo season. Being a mutable earth sign, Virgo’s peak guides us through the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, marking a significant shift in most students’ lifestyles, and the end of another season of life. Ever the grounding sign, Virgo season is the perfect time to breathe in, breathe out, and trust that everything will be okay.

To give a little more information about the planetary context of this sign, Virgo is governed by the planet Mercury, traditionally the planet symbolizing communication, expression, and organization; so of course, the Geneseo bookstore has picked the perfect time to target us all with tantalizing textbook offers. Capitalist initiatives aside, Virgo season is the peak time to start the academic year—what better planetary alignment to shift us into a new season with grounded productivity at its forefront?

With all of this in mind, Virgos themselves are anecdotally understood to be the most organized and grounded sign in the zodiac. Practical and logical yet well-practiced in empathy and compassion, Virgos toe the line between the sound presence of an earth sign and the free-flowing energy of a sign defined by the changing seasons. Virgos are known for their sage wisdom, comforting nature, and grounding presence: a fantastic sign to seek out during a difficult time or in the face of a complicated situation.

Of course, the start of the academic year often means, for most, the start of school stress, whether it be related to grades, cost of materials, relationships with professors or classmates, or the more personal elements of socialization and finding a sense of home. Virgo season calls us to focus on what we can control and make sense of what is physically in front of us—now is the time to break out the Google Calendar, your new Target journal, or the random, crumpled assortment of post-it notes that you use to keep track of your assignments, dates, and classes (I’m looking at you, Sagittarius). While the world seems to be whirling around us, both inside and outside of Geneseo’s campus, Virgo season encourages us to ground and grow from where we are now, rather than getting caught up in the stressors that we cannot focus on or handle effectively in this moment.

Of course, the dark side of Virgo season hits hard when we get a little too caught up in the organization and perfectionism that Virgo season enables. Especially as the semester starts to pick up, remember to be gentle with yourself—it’s admirable to try your best, but not to an extent that might be damaging for yourself or others. Additionally, while minding one’s p’s and q’s is one of the greatest strengths of a Virgo sun, try to guide yourself away from getting too bogged down in details for the real integrity of your work to stumble.

If you need a little inspiration to move mindfully through this last week of Virgo season, try channeling your inner Shania Twain, Jason Derulo, Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Billie Porter, Beyoncé, or any other Virgo celebrity to remind yourself of all the potential you have within, and all the skills you have to make this season your own. Breathe in, breathe out—everything will be okay.
