Geneseo Theaters offers a wide variety of films for an affordable price.

Are you looking for something to do during the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving break and Intersession? Look no further than Geneseo Theaters, a locally owned and operated movie theater located at 4180 Lakeville Road in Geneseo, just down the road from campus.

This weekend, Geneseo Theaters will be celebrating the holidays with the premiere of new Christmas movies such as Red One (2024) and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (2024). Red One (2024), directed by Jake Kasdan, is a PG-13 action-fantasy-comedy film in which Santa Claus (played by J.K. Simmons) is kidnapped, and his security team must join forces with bounty hunters to make things right. The cast is packed with Hollywood stars, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, and more.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (2024), directed by Dallas Jenkins, is a dramedy (comedy and drama) about a group of badly behaved children putting on the local church’s Christmas pageant. The cast includes Judy Greer, Pete Holmes, Lauren Graham, and many young co-stars and is rated PG.

Next weekend, starting Thursday, Nov. 21, Geneseo Theaters will begin showing Gladiator II (2024), the highly anticipated sequel to Gladiator (2000). The action-adventure film is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, and Pedro Pascal, among others. The plot follows Paul Mescal’s character, Lucius, many years after the first film's events, where he is forced to fight in the Colosseum as Rome descends into a reign of terror. The film is rated R for containing violence.

Also, beginning Nov. 21, the theater will start showing Wicked (2024), the movie-musical adaptation of the famous stage musical, which premiered on Broadway in 2003. The film was directed by Jon M. Chu and stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba alongside renowned singer/songwriter Ariana Grande as Galinda. The film will follow and —presumably— expand upon the plot of the first act of Wicked (2003); a sequel to the film is already slated for release in Nov. 2025. Feel free to see this with the whole family; this film is rated PG.

On Nov. 26, two days before Thanksgiving, the theater will be playing Moana 2 (2024). This animated Disney film, a sequel to Moana (2016), is directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller. Moana 2 (2024) includes the return of most of the prominent cast members from the original, such as Auli'i Cravalho, the voice actor for Moana, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to voice Maui. This movie is also rated PG. Unlike the first film, in which Broadway veteran Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote most of the soundtrack, Moana 2 (2024) features a soundtrack composed by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, co-writers of The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical. The movie’s score, however, is composed by Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foaʻi—both returning contributors from the first film.

If you are looking to watch something new at home, some recent theatrical releases have left the theater and will be available online soon. Saturday Night (2024) will be available for on-demand digital services on Nov. 12, and Smile 2 (2024) will be available digitally on Nov. 19. Heretic (2024) will be available on Dec. 10, and Venom: The Last Dance (2024) will be available at the start of the new year.

Interested in visiting the theater but want to stay budget-friendly? No worries— adult movie tickets at Geneseo Theaters after 6 pm are only $10.00 per person and $9.00 per person for SUNY Geneseo students who bring their student ID. Anytime before 6 pm, adult tickets are priced at $8.00 per person. To find movie showing times at Geneseo Theaters, visit their website, rochestertheatermanagement.com, or call 585-243-2691.
