Fans are sharing theories in anticipation of the fourth and final season of Superman & Lois.

On Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, the fourth and final season of Superman & Lois (2021-2024) will premiere. This new season will include the return of Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in their starring roles of Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane, as well as Alex Garfin and Michael Bishop as Superman’s twin sons, Jordan and Jonathan Kent. Season four will be the shortest, with only ten episodes, differing from the previous seasons, which held between 13 and 15 episodes each.

Superman & Lois (2021-2024) is the only television series associated with the expanded “Arrowverse” still on air. The “Arrowverse” refers to the television multiverse of CW network shows based on the DC Comics attributed to exist in the same universe as the iconic hero Arrow. The official “Arrowverse” included four main CW shows: Arrow (2012-2020), the show it was named for, The Flash (2014-2023), Supergirl (2015-2021), and DC's Legends of Tomorrow (2012-2022). The extended multiverse includes Superman & Lois (2021-2024) as well, but whether or not it is canonically connected to the “Arrowverse” is subject to much discussion among viewers, as the creator, Todd Helbing, has stated his intention to keep the show separate from the others in the past.

Since the previous season ended on a cliffhanger in June of 2023, fans have had over a year to speculate on the final season of Superman & Lois (2021-2024). During the finale, fans witnessed a showdown between Superman and the “Inverse Superman,” played by Tyler Hoechlin, who was created by the infamous villain Lex Luthor. This heat of battle took the two into space, where they were last seen fighting to the death before the season ended. Since the battle’s outcome is unknown, many fans have theorized that Superman may be dead—or at least—the world may believe him to be. Vindicating these theorists, this idea has been partially confirmed by the official season four trailer, where characters state that Superman has died.

While it is confirmed that Tyler Hoechlin will appear in the season, he has also confirmed the “death” of his character in an interview with TVLine at San Diego Comic-Con this year. When asked if his character was dead in response to the trailer, Hoechlin says, “We are doing the death of Superman in very much our kind of way…The writers do a great job of taking from the comics and putting our Superman & Lois (2021-2024) spin on it…they’ve done that again this year and I think they did a really great job.” When further explaining his involvement with the show as Clark Kent, Hoechlin adds, “...I will definitely be there, and there’s always, you know, many tools and flashbacks and whatnot…”

When asked for some spoilers about the new season, Hoechlin also told TVLine, “You’ll be seeing [Superman] team up with a lot of people in ways that maybe we haven’t seen him team up before. [He’s] going to need a lot of help…everybody’s trying to kind of find their way to do their part and fill [his shoes]…I’m excited for the fans to see how everybody kind of pitches in.”

This final season is looking to offer some promising developments that fans will want to check out. New episodes of Superman & Lois (2021-2024) will air on Monday nights on the CW at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, starting with the two-hour premiere on Oct. 7.
