Writer’s Spotlight: M. Mercurio

Psychology major with a minor in English. Does not usually submit works to public places like this, but kind of wants to try something new! Not really for any purpose, just to prove to herself she can even if the poems don’t make sense to others.

I Won’t Tell You That I Need You

Eyes. They looked up to you.

They asked you what I never could.

They gamboled at everything you did when you were inspiring me.

Even though you didn’t know it.

Hands. They held onto you.

They tugged on your flannel shirt, insisting you follow me.

They tapped you on the shoulder constantly, interrupting your every conversation.

Blithely, but you didn’t know it.

Lips. Asked you so many things.

They asked for a cookie and maybe one more.

Reluctantly told you that your dress ripped while playing dress up.

Quivering, because I didn’t want you to know it.

Now things are different

.

You’ve taught me all I need to know and

I don’t need you anymore.

I still love you, but my

Eyes, they say something different.

They roll away from you when you ask me for a favor.

Egregious instead of excited, but it’s nothing personal.

They still ask you the things I never could as well as my

Hands, that now push you away

When you try to hug me

Or pat me on the back when I do something right

I want to hug you in return, but for some reason my

Lips, tell you to leave me alone

They ask you for money to go out with friends

And tell you that your car was crashed into.

All they want to tell you is “I love you”, but for some reason

They can’t.
