Does Geneseo have a new club?

Over the past couple of weeks, there has been talk of yet another new club here on campus, and I am here to report that this may be true. A little birdie on campus has been tweeting about a club called “The Gaslighters Gathering.” This club has been making waves around campus, but little information can be found on it. So, I made it my personal mission to interview some of its new members. This proved to be a more difficult task than anticipated.

The Geneseo website lists many clubs and their meeting times in the “Upcoming Events” section, the best of these, of course, is The Lamron which hosts meetings at 5 p.m. on Thursdays. The rest of the clubs are great in their own ways, I guess. After some deep website stalking, I found where this new club holds its weekly meetings. As a reporter, I went to attend this meeting, but upon arrival to the classroom, was informed that no such meeting was being held. One student even went as far as to say, “You’re literally crazy,”—a statement that is still stuck in my mind.

In the classroom full of students I spotted a familiar face, Geneseo student Mike Rotch—who I have been friends with for quite some time now. I contacted him about the exciting opportunity to be interviewed for The normaL, and he jumped for joy. We then scheduled a place to do the interview, a table outside of the Union to be exact. When I arrived outside of the Union, Mike pretended that he was not a part of any clubs on campus. He said, “I have no idea what you’re talking about. I'm not in any clubs on campus, you’re crazy. I don't know who told you that.”

This interaction left me confused and questioning my sanity, but as one of The Lamron's faithful section editors, I continued my pursuit as any good journalist would. I discovered that this club was registered at Geneseo, and therefore had an official club email. I contacted said email with my experience trying to attend a club meeting and further express my desire to interview one of the members. Their response made me genuinely gasp out loud at my desk.

My email was answered by Mike Rotch who, evidently, is President of the club. He expressed his mutual desire for his club to be featured in the paper. At this point, I was confused AF. I responded quickly and reminded him of our meeting just a few days ago, and how he denied being a part of any club on campus. You will never guess what he said…

HE CLAIMED THAT HE NEVER SAID THAT. GUYS, I SWEAR HE SAID THAT TO MY FACE! HE LITERALLY TOLD ME WORD FOR WORD THAT HE WAS NOT IN ANY CLUBS ON CAMPUS AND NOW HE WAS LYING ABOUT IT. HE IS GASLIGHTING ME OR SOMETHING, I SWEAR.

Haha anyways, unfortunately, I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of a new club on campus. I have put over 20 hours of work into trying to figure this club out, so if anyone knows anything please—let me know. I can not sleep at night, all I can think about is The Gaslighters Gathering.
