Frugal Foodie: Sloppy Joes

A classic sloppy joe sandwich is perfect for nights when you want to eat at home but hardly have any ingredients available. These sloppy joes are made with just a few ingredients—many of which you probably already have sitting in the fridge!

Ingredients: 

  • 1 pound lean ground beef 

  • ¼ cup chopped onion

  • ¼ cup chopped green bell pepper

  • ¾ cup ketchup, or to taste

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste

  • 6 hamburger buns

Directions: 

Step 1: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef for three to four minutes. Add onion and bell pepper to the skillet and stir together until the beef is fully cooked. 

Step 2: Stir in the ketchup, garlic powder, salt, and pepper and mix well. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for approximately 25 minutes. 

Step 3: Divide the mixture evenly among hamburger buns and enjoy a delicious meal!
