Cyberstalking case involving SUNY Geneseo student closed, man sentenced
A New York City man who admitted to illegally accessing the Snapchat account of a SUNY Geneseo student, as well as hundreds of others, was sentenced to six months in prison on Dec. 1 2021.
Christie Smith of the Admissions office inducted into the Hispanic Leadership Institute as a fellow
Recently, Christie Smith, director of admissions at SUNY Geneseo, has been inducted into the Hispanic Leadership Institute (HLI) as a fellow. The HLI is a SUNY initiative that is focused on providing SUNY faculty and staff who identify as Latinx or Hispanic the opportunity to engage in dialogue together about the state higher education and building leadership skills.

UPD seeks to educate students via GOLD Workshop
The University Police Department [JM1] (UPD) is in the process of creating a Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development (GOLD) Workshop named “Know Your Rights” to educate students on the constitutional rights that citizens have, the constitutional rights that police officers have, and how the two are connected. The GOLD Workshop will most likely be open in late November.
Suspicious package, later discovered to be blueberries, causes mass evacuation of Geneseo Walmart.
On Sunday, October 24th a blueberry container was discovered in the Geneseo Walmart with duct tape surrounding it and odd wires protruding from it. Staff members began to check the box and felt it was out of the ordinary as they had not seen anything like it before.
Recent events involving former Geneseo students spark discussion about sexual assault
According to Livingston County News, former SUNY Geneseo student Philip Pang has been convicted of one count of criminal sex act in the first degree and two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree. These charges stem from a sexual assault he committed in Putnam Hall in 2014.
